Baptism #2, Nov. 3, 2008

Dear Mom, Dad, and Fam:

Things are certainly slowing down here in Dearborn North.  But the fact is is that we had a baptism on Saturday which means nothing else this week matters!!!!!!  Susie Milhan had her friend who lives in Bountiful fly in, and she was baptized and confirmed by Brother Allen in the ward here, him and his wife are really good friends with her and we've been to their home many times to teach her.  It was an awesome experience, and I'm so happy for her.

Dinner Appointments don't happen too much for a variety of reasons, part of which is the members in this ward themselves, and part of which is that we're supposed to try and eat with less-actives or investigators.  Its hard because we're not supposed to have sign-up sheets, but I dunno whatever.  I'm not supposed to expect getting fed anyways.

Things have been overall good but a little tough with my comp.  I honestly feel like I'm the one setting the example and leading, though he's been out a year and me only a few months I feel like I'm the senior companion.  But oh well we're working and I'm striving for diligence so that's what matters.

We were also able to have dinner this week at Sister Ford's house, our investigator who will hopefully be baptized the beginning of December.  Also, her good friend (and a friend of Elder Orton's) who is a recent convert in Flint came down and ate with us.  He's an awesome, bible-studying kind of guy who for some reason vaguely reminds me of Grandpa Simmons.  We had some delicious chicken, it was great.

It was Halloween night, so luckily we were able to stay inside rather than be outside knocking along with the trick-or-treaters.  Detroit isn't really the kindest place on Halloween anyways, apparently 'Halloween arson' is a big deal.  Every year darned hoodlums burn down old abandoned houses for fun, so there were sirens going off all night.  So lots of empty houses have big eyes with a 'stop Halloween arson' sign in the window.

Really nothing much else has happened, we've just been knocking like crazy and have no one to really teach, its been rough.  The one other guy we did teach was a crazy Detroit rambling guy who was unteachable.  And we had another 'there's nothing besides the Bible' guy.  Haha and I saw one guy lawn-mowing the leaves on the side of the street, that was pretty funny.  Sadly, I also saw a guy get beat up just on a street in Detroit.  I hate seeing that, it just makes you so mad.

I did get the package, thanks so much Mom!!!!  I will definitely enjoy the protein and other granola bars.  I plan on trying to make them last at least 48 days, if not longer.  Oh and thanks for the winter gear I truly needed it!!!!  The gloves are great, and the sweats are amazingly good worn under my pants.  Two days last week it was freezing, apparently in the 20s and 30s with wind chill, but then lately its been very nice and in the 50s and 60s.  It was great to see the kids' pictures, looks like Landon's finally grown an inch or so taller haha.

random stuff:

did you receive, and if you did could please mail me back, my camera card?

I got a letter from the Squires and also from Grandma Lambert, so I'll be writing both of them back.  It was great to hear from them!

Wow I can't believe Mike's wedding is already basically here!  I haven't sent him a letter because I don't have any address to send it to!!!  But oh well.

That's too bad you were released, though I was wondering when it would happen since you have been in there awhile.  That's nice Ashley's president, though I woulda thought since she's got her kid and has been in long herself she would be released.  I don't even know any of the others you said, I guess it just sounds like we have a bunch more young couples in the ward?

I'm glad to hear BYU won, though I hope they pick it up and start playing like they're supposed to.  It sounds like their hopeful season isn't as hopeful thanks to the fact that Utah and TCU are both amazing as well.  But its waaay cool that all three are ranked in the top 18, man I'm mad I'm missing this awesome football season!!  And C-wood sounds amazing. This could be their year.

thanks for everything, Mom and Dad and everyone!  This is the Lord's work, this is his Kingdom, and nothing will stop his word from spreading across the world!

-Elder Lambert
