Dear Mom, Dad, and family-
Things are going here in Dearborn North. Slowly, but going. Our baptism we had planned for this week ended up happening in Flint, where her new husband lives, so it was very lame not getting to see it happen. It was disappointing not to see the culmination of all my work teaching her, but I guess the important thing is she is baptized and will surely be an active member with her husband (he has an unbelievably powerful testimony).
Things have been slow and cold here. Its been in the low 20s of late, and Saturday we got a healthy dose of snow, probably a few inches I'd say. Saturday was actually a lot of fun, I was on exchanges with my District Leader Elder May and we celebrated his 18 month mark by going to Chili's to eat!! It was fun, not to mention we were driving in the snow. At one point making a right turn, the car lost traction and spun around so we faced the wrong way of traffic. Luckily there was no oncoming traffic, so it was just kind of fun hahah. :)
Nothing too amazing has been happening, like I said its been slow. We did get to go to the Christmas devotional last night, and so that was a lot of fun. There's also a lady we hope to teach who really is looking for truth and answers and to understand the bible.
The highlight of the week was a family we found last week who is very open to learning about the gospel. It is a younger couple with a girl(9) and boy(8) and a brand new 1-month-old baby. They were both exhausted when we taught them yesterday, but it was awesome to teach somebody. The father/husband had a lot of great questions and seems smart and seeking something, and his wife is very kind as well. Seeing as how things have been lately, I have very high hopes, especially since its a family, I'm really hoping they come to church and also to the ward party this friday. I think if they just get a taste of the spirit in the gospel and see the truth of the Book of Mormon, they'll be hooked. So obviously I have high hopes and am excited to actually teach a family!
Umm I guess nothing else really all that exciting happened this week. Ran into some nice people and some grumpy, we finally had one lady yell at us calling us 'prop 8 haters.' We wondered when we might have to encounter something like that. People don't answer nearly as much when its cold outside.
Thanks for the advice and stuff Dad, its always great to hear about your mission (esp. since Chicago seems so close and a kid I know from Cottonwood is there). The Lord does have his reasons for everything, and its up to me to use all he has given me to learn and better myself from my experiences. I feel I've had to mature in my missionary skills a lot faster as I've sorta had to be the leader in this companionship.
It was awesome but lame to hear about the Cottonwood championship game. Sounded like an intense game, but its too bad they just can't quite pull it out. Bet Isi felt terrible. But thats sweet BYU basketballs rocking!! Keep me updated on them and who they play!
Yeah and tell me soon what call-time works best for you. I'm not sure what we'll use to call, it'll either be a member's phone or else phone at the church building. Hopefully I'll have found out by next week, as you may have to make the call. But Christmas is shaping up to sound quite fun, our Ward Mission Leader is an awesome guy and his wife has to work, so I think we'll chill with him Christmas morning. We'll probably see some other members as well and go Christmas caroling. And then 5 days after christmas I'll get transferred!! I love the people here but I'm really ready for a new area. If I get stuck here again I may go crazy.
This is the Lord's church. The First Presidency truly are witnesses of Christ who receive revelation necessary to guide the entire world. Its amazing to truly realize how important they are, and how important the truths they teach are. We are blessed to have modern prophets of God, to have this church and this gospel. And its great to remember the birth of our Savior. I love watching the church movie 'Joy to the World' with people, it truly brings the spirit and inspires me. He did everything for us, and celebrating his birth should serve to bring us closer to him.
love you all, look forward to hearing from you on Christmas day, keep it real
