First Snow in Michigan, Nov. 17, 2008

Mom, Dad, and Family-

I'm here in Michigan with my very first snow.  Yesterday, it snowed during church and went almost all day.  Not too much stayed, but there is a weak little layer outside right now.  Our district is going to play football soon it should be tons of fun!!  Saturday it rained all day, it was pretty intense.  And cold.

This past week was good- went on exchanges into Mexican town and felt like a spanish-speaking greenie!!  We went into a home and I could only understand an occasional word or two, its so humbling when you don't understand a conversation.  I wish I knew more or was a spanish-speaking missionary, but oh well.  I could always tell when someone talked about me though!

Also went to a Middle-Eastern restaurant for the first time with some members, the Allens (who I've actually become pretty good friends with), it was tons of fun they had humus and I had a sandwich-pita sorta thing.  Also went to a Mid-east bakery called Shatila, it had mid-eastern and french pastries, they were good but not the best and some were weird.  They're obsessed with pistachio and rose-water, they had ice cream that tasted like roses!!!  I had a good mango ice cream though.  We also stopped by a member saturday after being out all morning in the rain and they fed us, then yesterday stopped by one of the coolest member families and they ended up feeding us.  And one lady we see after church who is finally coming back to church always gives us food to eat, its pretty funny.  It was great.

Sister Ford is getting married.  This week.  To the member from Flint.  Crazy!!!  We'll teach her til her baptism, then she'll probably move up to Flint with him.

Transfer calls came last night.  Lamest calls ever.  We thought the areas were combining, but nothing changed at all.  I'm kinda disappointed, I was looking forward to perhaps a new area or change of some sort, but nothing.  So, I'll be in Dearborn another six weeks for Thanksgiving and Christmas!!!  Christmas day is my 6-month mark!!  Holy cow!!!  But first I need to reach 5 months, which is in like a week.  This transfer should zoom by, we have the holidays, zone conference, a day at the mission home with the President, and just tons of mission stuff happening.  And a baptism, so this should be fun and exciting, even if I'm not best friends with my companion.  I still basically set the example of diligence and hard work, hopefully we'll find some people to teach here soon.

The other stuff:

Thanksgiving is preparation day, we should be playing football with some guys from the ward so it'll be fun.  I don't know where we're eating yet though.  And I'll email friday or wednesday probably.

On Christmas, we will not have preparation day for some lame reason and so I'll be able to call home either between 3 and 5 pm or after 9 pm (which would be 1-3 or after 7 in Utah).

That stinks the computer crashed, I hope some of the stuff on it is still there, though we do need a new computer.  and if you're using my lap top, PLEASE back up my music.  Ask Kabe, you can either use my ipod as a hard drive and save it there or buy an actual hard drive and save it there.  The last thing I want is for it to crash and all my music be gone.  That would be traumatizing.

I'm glad dad's plays went well!!  Sounds like it was quite the production and stuff, thats good that people really showed up on the weekends.  And thats sweet about new cars!!  Send me pictures when you get them!!  Out here half of our ward works for Ford, so some of the guys including our ward mission leader get to test drive the new Lincoln and Ford cars, which is sweeet.

That's lame about basketball, though c-woods teams will probably not be very good anyways.  Tell Landon and Cameron to focus on soccer, the world's sport.  Height doesn't matter nearly as much in it.  Or run track.  Its the best.  Or play football.  I wish I had played football.

I didn't vote no, it would have been an absentee and I'm not registered wouldn't know how to go about anything anyways.  I guess once I'm off my mission I'll figure it out.  Its hard to know anything anyways since we don't read the news or anything.

Football sounds intense.  Its lame BYU's defense isn't doing their best, but please record the BYU-Utah game for me!!  But if they lose, erase it.  But they won't.  And its awesome C-Woods doing amazing, I truly hope they win the championship!!!!!!  That would be sick!! Elder May, my district leader, won a state championship when he played football in Oregon.  We always have fun talking football.

Oh and happy birthday Mom!! You should expect something in the mail soon.  It'll be sweet.

Well I hope everyone keeps their heads up and enjoys the Christmas season.  Even if BYU loses, you'll all get to head up to Boise and have fun next week, which is a lot more than I can say.  But I know this is what I need to do, and where I need to be.  There are people waiting for me, people looking for truth, and I look forward to meeting and teaching them, whomever they are.  I love this gospel, love this work, and love the scriptures!! You truly can feel God's love as you read them!
I wish there was more I could do, but for now I just try to be the best missionary I can.

love,

Elder Lambert
