Dear Mom, Dad, Family, and such-

So this past week wasn't nearly the slowest week ever, but it certainly had some slow times.  I had the fun opportunity to go on exchanges with an Elder Moss- he's a funny kid; he was home-schooled, and so he told his story of how he didn't know what swear words were until his mission, and how he would use them at first because people didn't mention he shouldn't be saying those words.  Haha he's kind of awkward (for some reason I don't know if that's spelled right) but overall is funny and fun.

I've had the honor and privilege of teaching the law of chastity twice this week, once to the 9-year-old McKayla, and once the 14-year-old Tony.  So that was interesting.  You'd think it'd be awkward, and at times it is, but overall its not that bad.  What was strange is that both of their mothers were pregnant at age 16!  And both of them fully agreed with everything we taught, especially the no dating till sixteen thing.  Haha and E. Plange also said when you teach the law of chastity to kids in Detroit, one of the rules you teach is they can't marry anyone from Detroit.

We also finally saw Steve Mordi again, our Nigerian investigator.  He's very busy and progressing slowly, but told us straight up that even if we stop seeing him, he will continue attending church and join.  But we're definitely not stopping seeing him anytime soon.  He's very difficult to teach in how he speaks and talks- just the way he says things is so different and round-about I guess, but at the same time he doesn't hesitate to say whats on his mind.  He often sort of 'rebukes' us for various things- he told me I needed to visit another country one day.  Teaching him is definitely a challenge, but its a very fun and interesting challenge.  I sometimes get frustrated because I can't always teach him the way I usually teach people, so its definitely testing my teaching abilities, but surely for the better.

I have definitely seen some possible miracles-in-the-making though.  We got news a lady who's husband is a less-active member has been attending church and is interested in joining- we haven't been able to get a hold of her yet but hope to be able to soon, that would be an awesome opportunity to teach her and her husband!  Not only that, but one member who's a very cool guy brought his son and his son's friend to church last week.  Then he told us yesterday that his son's friend really enjoyed church, was very impressed, and is thinking of joining!!  So hopefully we'll teach him, I think he's around 14.  We have a dinner with them this week, and he should be present, so I'm definitely looking forward to that.  Hopefully both of those go somewhere.

Its actually kind of funny, in that those who're doing the most missionary work in this ward are the kids, some of which aren't even baptized yet themselves!!  Tony, whom we're teaching, and his brother Seth (who is a deacon), both brought friends to church a few weeks ago, and the kid in the story above isn't actually baptized himself, only his father is!  But truly, member missionary work is what is most important.  Elder Plange once said "You tract to be obedient, you work with members to have success" and it is overall true.  Tracting in our mission really isn't the most fruitful effort, but is necessary to show effort and diligence and obedience.  But it is really through members and people inviting people to church that things really happen.  So kids, invite people to church!!

Yesterday was very strange- it was warm, like in the 50s I think!  And we tracted in the evening during the Superbowl, which was not the best.  Of course people constantly used the excuse of "I'm watching the game" and such.  Man its funny to see people's excuses.  Whats also remarkable is how people can rarely look you in the face when they turn you away- I think its them feeling just a little guilt as they felt just slightly the spirit pressing upon their hearts.  So yeah.

Well this is my last week with Elder Plange, he leaves next  Wednesday!!  So I'll have a new companion next Tuesday, and hopefully some exciting/inspirational stories!

love,

Elder Lambert
