Referral Mania, Dec. 17, 2008

Dear Mom, dad, and family-

Things in the D have been crazy.  This past week, we have received around 16 referrals- usually people ordering movies or bibles from the church.  Its just been nuts.  I hear some areas have it even more intense, but its been pretty hectic for us.  But good, as it gives us lots of teaching opportunities and will hopefully lead us to a few solid investigators.  One was Muslim and was fake, one was a very crazy old Detroit lady with a nasty big fat bump on her eyelid and a smelly house, one was crazy and one day just told us we shouldn't come back though she had no reason why, but there is still hope.  One referral I already have high hopes for, as I've met him before all the way back in summer.  Sadly we probably won't be able to meet with him until after Christmas.

Things have been good though.  Susie Milhan got up last sunday and bore her testimony- she was so nervous and looked(and sounded) scared to death, but it was absolutely awesome to hear her testimony.  And then yesterday, Tony Hayes blessed the sacrament for the first time.  Truly wonderful to see these people become such amazing members of the church.

Oh and last Monday, we had dinner at the Allen's home, and she read out loud the email she sent to you and your response!  Slightly embarassing but oh well, it was very nice from both of you.

In terms of investigators, nothing quite moving forward just yet.  We have one who is unsure of meeting with us as she's held up by her apostolic upbringing. (her mom was the one baptized in Flint who 'spoke in tongues').  We did see one awesome lady named Michelle- she already trusts us a lot and is very excited to learn, and really liked the idea of eternal marriage especially.  She's not willing to set specific times due to her holiday business, but hopefully we'll continue seeing her.

Friday night was the ward Christmas party, it was tons of fun and had lots of great desserts.  The 4 of us missionaries performed a skit (which you all may be lucky enough to see....) that went awesome.  Other members also did great talents, it was waay fun.  Its also been fun to see all the Christmas lights up, it certainly makes things much more cheerful and fun.  And we saw a big group of carolers last night, so that was fun.  We may go caroling Christmas as well, I guess we'll see.

Also, Saturday was exchanges with Elder Barrett, he's way cool and we had a great time.  He played basketball for mtn crest in high school, and is just a cool guy.  We had a pretty good Saturday, and its fun because he's actually a spanish-speaking elder, so we had language studies that morning.  Me and Elder Orton are getting along better.  I still am bugged by a ton of things but I just try and be patient.  I've really grown these last few weeks as a missionary.  I've done much better at just being on top of things- phone calls, keeping things updated, just everything.  As I've sorta felt like the senior companion, I realize I've learned a lot and just become a better missionary, even my teaching has improved a lot.  I've been amazed to  see how I've grown and become a better servant.  I feel so much more confident in almost every aspect of the work.  Its amazing.

The weather has been coooolld, though yesterday it was a nice 45 degrees, usually its in the 20s.  I've been doing good staying warm, though I'll definitely need a scarf or something soon to keep my neck and such warm.

It sounds like things are crazy back home.  Hope the Jen Ottens trial goes well, I do remember the name.  It sounds like Dale and Cindy's family is just going crazy, what with the wedding, engagement, and Braden coming home.  And then Scarlet gets married soon?  crazy.  Sounds like it'll be fun to see everybody and stuff though.  Sounds like Christmas should be fun too.  I'm glad the kids are having fun and keeping busy, tell Landon he should do soccer or track soon, probably same to Cameron.  Oh and I got the Squire's Christmas card, that was cool.  Expect your Christmas gift soon- its not much but it should be fun.  hopefully you'll enjoy it.

in regards to treats, I would say, ummm, mint brownies or 7-layer cookies (without the nuts), or those sweet marshmallow rice-krispie things the Andersons give us every year.  Those all sound great.  But really I'm not that picky.

well, love you all, remember the Savior's birth and atonement, pray always, the church is true and is guided by god's prophets, and missionary work rocks!

love,

Elder Connor Lambert
