Thanksgiving in the Field, Dec. 1, 2008

Dear Mom, Dad, and family-

Overall, a good Thanksgiving here in Michigan.  Thursday morning we went and played football with 4 other Elders and a bunch of guys from the ward, it was tons of fun though not quite as fun as with just the missionaries because older guys like smaller fields (which is definitely not to my advantage).  It was tons of fun despite my being not very good and having to guard Elder Johnson most of the time, he's extremely quick (though a bit easier to guard than Mikey haha).  It was fun, though the day was boring as I mostly just ate and wrote letters.  Thanksgiving dinner was great, the 4 of us missionaries in the ward went to a lady named Sister Wiedling's and she fed us all, it was fantastic and very delicious.  Good turkey, stuffing, green olives, and pumpkin pie to top it all off.  So overall it was a good Thanksgiving.

Friday then was zone conference.  Great as always, President really threw down on missionaries being lazy and of course gave us some inspirational thoughts.  Zone conference is always fun, and then next week we get to have a 'mission home for the holidays' where we go and eat at the mission home with Pres. and Sis. Rawson.

Saturday I went on exchanges with Elder Tams, one of the Assistants to the President.  They usually go with missionaries or companionships who aren't doing the best to try and help out, but it was tons of fun.  He's from the north of the Salt Lake, grew up on a ranch, and is basically a cowboy at heart.  I had a great time though, we went to his area called Northville and tracted mansions in this ridiculously nice area, and it was just a very nice sunny day.  The houses all had a least three stories, with nice beautiful frozen ponds in the backyards.  I learned a lot, and think things will really start going better.

Sunday was also good- tons of people were out of town, including all the bishopric, so the HP group leader conducted and two missionaries talked.  We did a lot of tracting in wet snow and rain, but it was fun and we found a family who was willing to listen!!!  They were very open, and I'm very hopeful for teaching them.

In regards to Christmas:

send all packages to the mission office by usps

I'll probably call home on Christmas day around 9 pm here (7 there) or else between 3 and 5 (1 and 3 there) let me know if you have a preference- and calls are supposed to only like 40 minutes so pick and choose what you want to say and ask about.

I don't want to sound too demanding (about Christmas gifts), I really don't need much as I've been hanging in there pretty well.  I'm learning to budget my money a lot better, and we've been getting fed more often lately.  I'm just really praying we will have some solid investigators to teach by the end of this week.  There are always ways I can improve, and I love zone conference because it really helps me see what I can do to be a better missionary.

It sounds like Thanksgiving was great, though I hope everyone who was sick gets better!!  That's very cool that Kaili got a scholarship to BYU, it has a great cross-country program.  I'm glad everyone had a good time, but I still haven't heard about the c-wood state championship!  I'm assuming they lost.  Oh well.

keep reading those scriptures and praying!!

love,

Elder Connor Lambert
