The Ritual Burning - and More, Feb. 9, 2009

Dear Mom, Dad, Cameron, Landon, Noelle, and family and such-

This past week was slow.  Very slow.  It seemed as if everyone was sick or had to cancel for some reason or another, it was just simply crazy.  We did a ton of tracting, and all the cancelled appointments made for a looong week.  But there were definitely ups along the way.

Oh in regards to a companion no I don't have a new one yet.  Transfers are tomorrow, so Elder Plange and I have been together still this past week.  But tomorrow I get a new one, and he goes to the mission home and flies home to New Jersey Wednesday morning.  Oh and yes the Trump is the newsletter I forwarded it to you, though they're supposed to email it to you themselves I don't know why they haven't.

One highlight of the week was being able to teach Steve Mordi again- we finished the Plan of Salvation, he had read from the Book of Mormon and knows its true.  We've been emphasizing teaching out of it and so that, along with the fact that he's read some, is what is so important for him to gain a testimony.  He came to church as well and luckily enough was able to stay for Sunday School as well, so that was awesome!!  Its always cool to see people truly progress.  He met the bishop as well, and we're hoping pretty soon to set a baptismal date for some time in March.  Which is sweet.  Meeting and teaching him truly has been a miracle.

Besides Steve, the week was basically dead until Saturday and Sunday rolled around.  Saturday ended up with not one, but TWO dinner appointments- and somehow I managed to eat a good amount at both.  The first was at the Stokeys, who are way cool, and after dinner we used their backyard fire pit for Elder Plange's ritualistic 'burning.'  He burnt a bunch of old shirts, socks, a suit, and stuff- in commemoration of his two-year mark (yep you hit your two-year mark on a Saturday I guess) and to get rid of some clothes he won't need anymore. So that was plenty fun.  Then we went and had another meal at another member's house!!

Sunday was equally as crazy.  Elder Plange, who's done well at keeping his leaving away from many members, including our ward mission leader, decided to tell him Sunday morning, which ended up with him getting up and bearing a nice little testimony in church once the Bishop found out.  So all day at church people were congratulating him and all sorts of stuff.  Then that evening we had two dinner appointments another night in a row!!  So yet another evening of packed stomachs and loosened belts.

So yeah a boring week with a good weekend.  Sometimes you have to get used to disappointment, and just learn to not be disappointed in things, or at least let it not affect you so much.  Its hard and seems against your nature, but patience and perseverence in these things makes missionary work, and everything else, so much easier when you just put it in perspective.

Its awesome to hear how everyone's doing in school and sports and stuff.  Its weird prom is already here- though mom I have no idea who Brooke(?) is, except that she's the girl Cameron asked to prom.  That's fun you've all been going skiing- I miss mountains like crazy.  Its way too flat for its own good out here.  The weather has greatly improved though- its been in the 40s and 50s the past few days and has been fantastic!!  The snow has been melting and all sorts of fun.

Oh and yes we do read the ensign, we have at least 40 in the apartment and usually get them a month later than everyone else.  I read them all the time though.  And one talk I really like was by a mission president's wife about Joy in Missionary work, its a fantastic talk.  I read so much ensign.  I challenge all of you to read an entire ensign or something (new era or friend if you must).

Oh and I should update you tomorrow or the day after with info on my new companion.  But have a good rest of your week!!

love,

Elder Connor Lambert
