Dear Mom, Dad, and Family:
Well, this was a tough week for sure. We biked Tuesday, and all of our appointments fell through that day, which meant an exhausting and seemingly useless day of nothing but tracting. It was tough, but hey, we made it through. Besides, there are some areas, and even some missions, that are much tougher. Man that was a long day though. Oh, and I've started taping up my bicycle. Its recommended you tape them up so they don't like nearly so shiny and new- and mine is white, red, and new, so its very attractive to bike thieves!! (missionaries in detroit get bikes stolen quite often)
We also have had to some tracting in Detroit at night, which is never very fun. People often warn us or say we're crazy, two white boys walking the streets of Detroit at night!! Haha its not very fun but you've got to be obedient to get your blessings and be a good missionary, and sometimes that what happens.
On the good side, we have two investigators progressing very well. Susie Milhan is moving along great, and will be baptized november 1st for sure, and her friend from Utah is flying out just to be there for it! Its gonna be great, and its only two weeks away! Also, crazy Sister Ford is moving forward slowly but surely, she should hopefully be at church this week. We taught her twice, and she didn't 'speak in tongues' either time, which was a great improvement. Oh crazy detroit people and their crazy ideas.
We did service for and taught sister Wheat as usual, she is so amazing. She has to go in for her botox injections she gets to help out her parkinsons, which isn't fun. It usually hurts her a lot before it actually helps her. Its just tough to see such amazing people go through such hard times. Talking to another lady last night who struggles with health, I learned she was able to be sealed to her husband with a friend in his proxy after he had died. That was a great comfort to me, knowing that she will be able to be with him again and live in peace and comfort when she passes from this life. She has such immense hardships now, but eventually she will be free from it all.
We also got a call from a lady who was nearly baptized some time ago but her mom wouldn't let her, and we hope to see her tonight. I'm really praying that things go well with her- we need another solid investigator to teach!! She seemed really nervous to get in contact with us, but also excited to have us coming over. Oh, and Saturday we were able to teach a family! It was amazing, there were two 9-year-old girls who just asked question after question, it was a little chaotic with all these kids everywhere but really quite fun.
Yesterday was tough too, we saw a bunch of less-active and such people. One lady was a 'do-not-contact' and we didn't realize it. Its so sad to see people who have hardened themselves so much against the truth. And the thing is that you know they aren't happy- you can't be happy when you're always running away from the true gospel of Jesus Christ. And that is so obvious in these miserable people.
We also got into an actually pretty good discussion with another couple on doctrine of the nature of god and all sorts of things. Its just interesting how much sense this gospel makes, and how all of the church's teachings just fit together so perfectly. That is found no where else.
random things:
In deciding to eat healthier, I bought garden rotini pasta and pesto sauce and made pasta, along with some grated cheese on top. It is actually very good, and I'm hoping to start eating a bit healthier. I usually try and eat at least half an apple or peach each day.
Oh, and I cut my own hair again. This time, I did the sides shorter than the top. I think overall it turned out pretty well, I can't tell how well the long top blends with the shorter sides, but it seems pretty good. I'm quite proud of myself.
That is soooo lame that BYU lost, I was actually quite worried about it. But I think they can still pull it out and win the rest, it sounds like BYU, Utah, TCU and the whole mtn west is doing amazing this year.
Thats great Landon got his contacts in! He needs to start doing push-ups if he wants to be tougher, they are the best exercise ever. And I'm very jealous they get to go to a cabin for young men's!
Oh and congrats to Dad on hitting the half-century mark! He should be pleased to know that no one who sees his picture thinks he's that old.
Well I hope the week goes well for everyone, mine's looking much better. Oh, and it got really cold yesterday, it was like 35 when we got out in the morning. I'm definitely gonna need some warmer gear soon. Mom, I'll be sending a letter with letters to type up for the byu and c-wood link letters today. Oh, and you should maybe submit a picture, though I don't know that there are any good ones worth sending that capture detroit. I'll work on that.
love,
Elder Connor Lambert
